The author discloses the content of the concept of a non – Western state and substantiates the wide spread of this phenomenon in the world, refuting the basic provisions of the theory of democratic transit. The author comes to the conclusion that the way out of the “methodological impasse of transitology” should be sought not only with the help of non-patrimonial alternatives, but also on the basis of a qualitatively different approach which interprets transformation of political regimes in modern countries of non-Western type as a result of ideological struggle and by conducting a comparative analysis of the power of different ideologies of various social groups and elites.
